Accessibility is something many people take for granted. In our daily lives we climb stairs, walk through doors and use the kitchen and bathroom without much thought as to how easy it is. For many of our neighbors, these things don't come easy. The elderly, sick and disabled members of our community face 'routine tasks' as daily challenges. That is why Rebuilding Mid-Columbia is dedicated to improving the lives of those who face mobility and accessibility challenges by offering the Accessibility Modifications program. This program seeks to improve lives through projects that vary from building wheelchair ramps to doorway expansions to bathroom renovation.
Something amazing happens when people come together to revitalize a house or neighborhood. There is a new level of pride and a sense of community borne through working together with our neighbors to achieve a common goal. It is no secret that there are some neighborhoods throughout the Mid-Columbia region that are aging at a rate few homeowners can keep up with. The Neighborhood Revitalization program identifies low income neighborhoods and brings together hundreds of volunteers on designated days throughout the year to prune, paint, repair structures, and revitalize neighborhoods.
Have you have ever had a pipe burst or a window broken? Sometimes things break that need immediate attention. The Urgent Needs Program addresses repairs that are critical to maintaining a functioning home that is safe for all residents.
The urgent needs of our community are vast. Within the first year of its existence, the Urgent Needs program has served dozens of homeowners in need.
